I recently decided I have an interest in supply chain management. I have a B.S. in Psychology and about 12 hours of economics classes with a year of retail experience. Any help would be appreciated. What is the best way to enter the field of logistics/ supply chain management?
Apply to distribution jobs. really, it's that easy. Try CareerBuilder.com and jobsinlogistics.com. many times the main requirement is a degree - which you have...generally the type of degree is not too important so your psych degree will be OK - be prepared for a TON of questions regarding 'why work in this environment' You will probably need to start out in a 3PL (third party logistics) bcz the environment can be less demanding than working for the bigwigs. However, as an insider tip, target takes inexperienced folks ALL the time - many times fresh outta college. You can apply directly to their web site - look for a DC (distribution center) in your area. Ditto for Amazon - look on their site directly. They have a more structured hierarchy so you could gain knowledge and advance better there. Finally, realize that this job does NOT allow you to sit behind a desk - it's a LOT of monitoring teams/data and pitching in to help as well so it can be physical.
Good Luck! What is the best way to enter the field of logistics/ supply chain management?
Spend a tour in the military doing Supply.
