What are some really good inventory management systems?

I am in the market for a really good inventory management system for my stores. The one that we are currently using is a nightmare and a great many years old.

At a minimum:

I need it to be able to handle inventory for multiple locations.

Keep track of purchase orders for the stores and for customer orders etc.

I need it to be able to read and create bar-codes.

Being able to integrate with Zencart would be a plus.

I would appreciate any input anyone has on the subject.

Thanks

Welcome to the 21st century Codie. You are taking steps to make your business more streamlined and protect your profits. I can't help you as to the Program to go with, as the one I had with my business was designed around the flooring industry . . but was very comprehensive in inventory control and purchasing, as well as payroll etc etc.

Just let it suffice to say, it is a big commitment of time, money, and training to embark on a new system . . but it's worth it.

You can take a look at inFlow Inventory. It is a basic inventory system that has all the esstenials.

It has a Free version that is free forever, but limits to 100 products and customers. The software itself is very easy to use and fast to install.

Here is the website:

In your case, I will would suggest for you to consult an IT company.

SKU system is complicated and would involved many variables that are not included in predesigned inventory applications. Barcode technology is a must, but of course you'll need to invest with your equipments to do so. You'll also be needing to have a better system implementation, designed for internal controls. Your supply chain strategies are also needed for cost management, specially that you're having multiple stores/warehouse.

In your case, it is better to establish a system that is inter-operatibility. Meaning, it would be necessary to have a main warehouse that will transact matters regarding ordering, procurements and storage. All other transactions like inter-company, warehouse transfer of goods will be dealt upon by the main warehouse.

In this case, a server-based application and database system is applicable. SAP, Oracle-based or JD Edwards are examples.

Invest with ERP system or with other integrated application.
